Amid aggressive U.S. tariff policies aimed at reducing reliance on China, Apple—the world’s leading technology corporation—is accelerating efforts to restructure its global supply chain. Steep tariffs on goods imported from China have created significant pressure, pushing Apple and its partners to seek alternative production hubs to optimize costs and minimize geopolitical risks.
Vietnam: Apple’s new manufacturing hub
Thanks to its strategic location, competitive production costs, young workforce, and open investment policies, Vietnam has emerged as a key manufacturing base in Apple’s global value chain. By 2023, Apple had 35 suppliers operating in Vietnam—a 40% increase from the previous year—making Vietnam the fourth-largest supplier base for Apple globally, following China, Taiwan, and Japan.
Beyond being home to parts suppliers, Vietnam is becoming a vital manufacturing site for Apple, where major products such as AirPods, iPads, and Apple Watches are now assembled.
As of 2024, Vietnam has more than 35 factories and offices of Apple’s manufacturing partners, concentrated primarily in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh—two provinces playing a central role in the high-tech supply chain.
Apple partners’s key industrial parks in Bac Giang:
- Quang Chau Industrial Park, developed by Saigon–Bac Giang Industrial Park Corporation (SBG), is home to Foxconn’s 50-hectare iPhone assembly plant.
- Van Trung and Dinh Tram Industrial Parks have attracted multiple projects from Luxshare and Fuhong (a Foxconn subsidiary).
Apple partners’s key industrial parks in Bac Ninh:
VSIP, Dai Dong – Hoan Son, and Que Vo Industrial Parks host key players such as Goertek, Luxshare, and Foxconn. VSIP is a joint venture between Becamex IDC and Singapore’s Sembcorp. Yen Phong Industrial Park, developed by Viglacera Infrastructure Corporation (a Viglacera subsidiary), is home to many second-tier suppliers within Apple’s ecosystem. In addition, provinces like Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Hung Yen, Hanoi, and Hai Phong are also attracting strong high-tech capital inflows. Notably, Trang Due Industrial Park in Hai Phong, invested by KBC, currently hosts LG Innotek, which produces camera modules for iPhones.
For a flexible and sustainable supply chain
Beyond mitigating tariff-related risks, Apple aims to build a more resilient and diversified supply chain. Vietnam, with its stable investment environment and supportive FDI policies, meets the key criteria to become a major high-tech manufacturing hub in Asia.
In discussions with Vietnamese leadership, Apple has reaffirmed its commitment to long-term expansion and expressed willingness to cooperate in workforce development, technical training, and innovation. During Apple’s financial report on May 1, CEO Tim Cook noted that a significant portion of Apple devices sold in the U.S. in Q2 will originate from Vietnam and India, underscoring Apple’s long-term investment strategy and strong commitment to Vietnam.
