As of now, the total number of FDI projects in Da Nang has reached 1,057 projects with an investment capital of nearly 6.54 billion USD, attracting the interest of many major global corporations such as Qualcomm, Marvell, Nvidia, and others.

In the first eight months of 2024, Da Nang attracted more than 30.646 million USD in FDI. This includes 51 newly registered FDI projects with a total capital of 24.592 million USD, 18 projects with capital adjustments, adding 4.803 million USD, and 16 capital contribution and share purchase transactions amounting to 1.25 million USD. These results bring the total number of FDI projects in Da Nang to 1,057, with total investment capital reaching nearly 6.54 billion USD.

Boosting FDI attraction in the semiconductor industry

In recent years, Da Nang has proactively engaged with major corporations such as Synopsys, Nvidia, Marvell, and Intel to promote investment in the semiconductor industry, aiming to become a leading high-tech hub in the region. Thanks to the city’s investment promotion efforts, in May 2024, Marvell decided to open a chip design office in Da Nang. Additionally, in the first five months of the year, Da Nang welcomed 22 companies in the fields of semiconductors and AI. Notably, in 2024, Foxlink and ICT Vina will continue their second-phase factory investments, with total capital of 400 million USD and 277 million USD, respectively, marking the growth of the semiconductor industry in Da Nang.

Industrial development orientation of the city

In addition to strengthening FDI attraction, Da Nang aims to become one of the top three semiconductor hubs in Vietnam by 2030. To achieve this goal, the city has focused all its resources on training and attracting at least 5,000 highly skilled workers for the semiconductor industry, including at least 2,000 in design and 3,000 in testing and packaging.

Additionally, Da Nang aims to attract investment from at least 20 semiconductor design companies and related services, including 1-2 companies specializing in testing and packaging. The city is also focused on attracting investment into high-tech zones and IT parks, with the goal of bringing the second phase of the Software Park with an area of 90,000 m² into operation by the end of 2024, creating jobs for more than 6,000 employees.

At the same time, Da Nang is considering piloting the establishment of a free trade zone linked to Lien Chieu Port, where two key sub-zones for production and logistics will play an important role in supporting the development of the semiconductor industry. This is essential infrastructure that will help Da Nang boost the growth of this strategic industry and contribute to the city’s long-term development goals.
