A series of large FDI investment projects in Vietnam from Samsung and Apple have been choosing Vietnam as an investment destination to expand production scale, making Vietnam step by step become a global production base for smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

Samsung – The largest FDI investor in Vietnam – continues to pour capital strongly
Available in Vietnam since 1996, up to now Samsung is one of the Korean FDI investors in Vietnam. Major projects of Samsung Vietnam include 4 factories manufacturing smartphones and mobile devices in Thai Nguyen and Bac Ninh, a complex of factories in Saigon Hi-Tech Park, Samsung Vietnam Mobile R&D Center (SVMC), etc. The representative of the corporation said that Samsung is continuing to promote factory expansion and production transfer in Vietnam. Many information sources indicate that Samsung Group will bring part of its TV production line to Vietnam to help its global production become more efficient.
Apple and Google investment race
On January 18, Bac Giang officially granted the investment registration certificate to Fukang Technology Factory (Invested by Foxconn Singapore – OEM supplier of Apple). The project has a registered capital of 270 million USD, equivalent to 6,233 billion VND, with the goal of producing about 8 million tablet and laptop products for Apple each year. Previously, Foxconn has invested in Vietnam since 2007 with 2 factories in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh. It is expected that by 2021, Foxconn’s total investment capital in Vietnam will reach 2.2 billion USD.

Google is also the next “eagle” predicted to invest in production in Vietnam. According to Nikkei, Google intends to set up a factory in Vinh Phuc to manufacture/assemble smartphones. The lineup to be assembled here will be the latest phone model, the Google Pixel 4A. It is expected that assembly will begin after April and may expand to the Pixel 5 series in October. The information is reinforced by the image of a Google Pixel 4A phone case with the words “Made in Vietnam” which makes many technology fans excited.
The increase in investment capital by technology giants not only helps Vietnam become a global base for the production of laptops, smartphones, and tablets but also expands opportunities to attract FDI from the investors’ partners and suppliers.
