Construction site, with the characteristics of a crowded working environment on a large area, what should engineers and workers do to ensure Covid-19 prevention at work?
Covid-19 is a respiratory disease that spreads quickly from person to person, mainly through infected person’s respiratory droplets when coughing, talking, or having close contact less than 2m. Understanding the spread of the virus, DELCO has been effectively implementing 8 measures to prevent Covid – 19 at their construction sites:
1. Body temperature testing
The construction gate guards always strictly control the number of people entering and leaving work site. 100% of engineers and workers must make a medical declaration and check their body temperature before entering the construction site. Cases with signs of fever, cough, fatigue… are not allowed to continue working.
2. Wearing a mask correctly for the best protection
Using a mask at work is a measure of limiting close contact, and preventing the transmission of COVID-19. Those who do not wear masks when coming to the construction site are required not to enter the work site. The Project Manager also regularly checks during the working shift, reminding the entire construction site about wearing masks properly, giving priority to the use of disposable medical masks.
3. Social distancing at work
Following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended precautions, the Site Managers assigns appropriate works, minimizes the number of workers in narrow and enclosed spaces, and maintains a distance of at least 2m between individuals when working.
4. Washing hands to protect against coronavirus
Hand hygiene is the most important measure to avoid the transmission of harmful germs. At DELCO construction sites, antibacterial soap is an indispensable thing at the hand basin. Cleaning hands daily at key times such as before and after work shifts, after using the toilet, after touching shared equipment, before putting on or removing eye or face protection (safety glasses, etc.), is very important.
5. Often cleaning and disinfecting facilities
At the beginning and the end of each working shift, workers will clean and disinfect the surfaces of shared objects such as door handles, tool and machine handles, toilets, etc. with standard alcohol or detergent.
6. Daily gargling with warm salt or specialized antiseptic mouthwash
Site Manager also regularly remind and encourage engineers and workers to keep the habit of gargling with physiological saline or specialized antiseptic mouthwash every day.
7. Strengthening the Immune System through nutrition
DELCO always tries to care about the meals of engineers and workers at the construction site, how to diversify food, provide enough nutrition, energy and protein, strengthen the Immune System during this epidemic.
8. Stay home if having any signs or symptoms of Covid 19
The Site Manager closely monitors and manages the number of each worker team. Any engineer or worker with symptoms of Covid-19 are asked to stay at home. The Site Manager will promptly contact the nearest medical facility to have an effective epidemiological control plan.
9. Actively carry out Covid-19 testing at construction sites
In addition to the implemented safety measures, DELCO actively organizes Covid tests to screen, detect and prevent risks: PCR test for managers and workers at high-risk construction sites; rapid test with standard test kits for other staffs. All have negative test results, every employees are assured to work in a safe and closed environment.
Up to now, DELCO’s site works are still proactively preventing epidemics while implementing the project according to the schedule, ensuring the quality as committed to the Investor.
