What is a Vietnam Investor Visa?

Vietnam Investor Visa is a visa issued by the Vietnamese Government to allow foreigners to establish or invest in companies in Vietnam.

What are the types of Vietnam Investor Visa? Who and how long is the Vietnam Investor Visa valid for?

Currently, Vietnam investor visas are divided into 4 different types including DT1, DT2, DT3 and DT4 visas. According to Clauses 4, 5a, 6, Article 9 of Law No. 51/2019/QH14 stipulates the subjects and visa validity for foreigners as follows:

  • Foreign investors and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with capital contribution of at least VND 100 billion, or investing in the business fields and areas of investment incentives decided by the Vietnam Government.

DT2 Visa
  • Foreign investors and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution of VND 50 – under VND 100 billion, or investing in the business fields of investment encouragement decided by the Vietnam Government.
  • No more than 05 years
DT3 Visa
  • Foreign investors and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution of VND 3 – under VND 50 billion.
  • No more than 03 years
DT4 Visa
  • Foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution of less than VND 3 billion.
  • No more than 01 years

What types of investment visas are eligible for temporary residence cards?

According to Vietnam investor visa policy: DT1, DT2, DT3 visas are eligible to apply for a temporary residence card within the valid time in Article 38 of Law No. 47/2014/QH13. Conditions for granting Vietnam Investor Visa

Foreign investors, who want to apply for a Vietnam Investor Visa, need to meet the following conditions according to Article 10 of Law No. 47/2014/QH13:

  • Having a valid passport or international travel document.
  • Being invited or guaranteed by agencies, organizations, and individuals in Vietnam.
  • Not falling into the cases of not allowing entry as prescribed in Article 21 of Law No. 47/2014/QH13.

By fully preparing the documents as prescribed by the Law and submitting them early, foreign investors will receive the results as soon as possible, avoiding wasting a lot of time adding old documents multiple times.

Procedures for applying investor visas for foreigners in Vietnam.

Procedure of applying for an investor visa is an important process that helps foreign investors enter the country, conduct market research and invest directly in large and small businesses in Vietnam.

Application for Vietnam Investor Visa

This dossier includes documents which are prescribed by the Law such as:

– Certified copy of Business Registration Certificate & Investment Registration Certificate of the invested company in Vietnam (sponsor company);

– Registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the sponsor company (Form NA16 issued with Circular 04/2015/TT-BCA).

– Official dispatch requesting the Immigration Department to consider and approve the application for visa, extension of stay for foreigners in Vietnam according to form NA2 issued with Circular No. 04/2015/TT- BCA.

Where to submit the Investor visa application form in Vietnam?

The investor visa application form in Vietnam are submitted to one of the following two addresses of the Immigration Department – Ministry of Public Security:

  • 44-46 Tran Phu, Ba Dinh, Hanoi.
  • 333-335-337 Nguyen Trai, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Organizations, agencies and individuals can submit applications at this address.

In case of applying for an investor visa when the investor is absent in Vietnam, businesses, organizations, and agencies in Vietnam need to apply for visa approval at the Immigration Department and send it to the investor to continue with entry procedures. Investors can also contact the Vietnamese Embassy of the host country for assistance in applying for an investor visa quickly and conveniently.

The application will be processed within no more than 05 working days after receiving full valid documents.

How much is the visa application fee in Vietnam?

Below are the latest visa application costs effective from October 3, 2023:

  • Visa is valid from 01 year to 02 years: 145 USD per pcs.
  • Visa is valid from 02 years to 05 years: 155 USD per pcs..
